From the 14th to the 17th Century, the border areas between England and Scotland were turbulent and lawless places and neither Country’s laws were respected. To the North of Carlisle in particular, the line of the border was not clearly defined and parts of the area became known as “The Debatable Lands”.
BLANCHLAND – A HIDDEN GEM
I have many favourite places and locations in my areas, but the village of Blanchland on the Southern edge of Northumberland is definitely on my list. It is an absolute gem of a village – a hidden gem really.
